Exciting Green School Announcement!

We now have a Non-Standard Recycling Container at NES!

We are excited to announce that Northfield now has a Non-Standard Recycling Container to collect items that can't be recycled in the standard blue bin each week.  Philip Taylor, former Northfield student and rising senior at Wilde Lake Highschool, designed and constructed the bin as part of his Eagle Scout project.

The bin was designed to be able to collect three types of recyclables during a period of time.  Students will be encouraged to bring recyclable items in from home that can't be put into the blue collection container each week. Once the bins are full, all items will be properly recycled at a location that collects the items (for example: Alpha Ridge Landfill, Best Buy, and/or MOM's Organic Market).

We will be communicating to students via morning announcements and families via the Northfield News about which items are being collected.  Students can bring items into school and put them into the bin which will be located in the front lobby.  If we are collecting larger items, we will roll the container out to the bus loop so that parents can drive up and drop off items.

We are grateful that Philip Taylor chose to create to container for Northfield.  It is going to be a great way to encourage recycling in our community and will help support our Maryland Green School efforts.  We hope you choose to recycle those non-standard blue bin items right here at NES.  We know students will feel proud to contribute to this environmental effort.
