Northfield is excited to celebrate Maryland Reading Month in January to celebrate Northfield's awesome readers and writers. See below for a list of planned activities.
Students take "The Reader's Oath" together.
Rotation Reading Week- The Kindergarten team will continue their tradition of Mystery Readers. Students in grades 1-5 will have the opportunity to hear other staff members favorite stories read to them periodically throughout the week.
Kids Reading to Kids Week- Third graders will read to kindergarten students, fourth graders will read to first graders, and fifth graders will read to second graders througout the week.
Reading Jeopardy Week- The morning announcements will be filled with challenging reading questions for classrooms to answer. The answers and winning classes will be announced each afternoon.
Read Me Day- Students are encouraged to wear something readable--- a shirt with words on it will do!
Each homeroom teacher will nominate one student per week that has shown phenomenal effort in reading and writing throughout the week. The names will be read over the morning announcements on Fridays and students will be given a certificate to recognize their outstanding effort.
