AM/PM Bus Routes and Dismissal Information

Mon, 08/27/2018 - 4:07pm
Hello NES Families,

This message contains important information regarding AM and PM bus routes, as well as dismissal information for all students including those that do not ride a bus.

At the bottom of this message, you will be able to download a document detailing the route information for each of our buses.  Students should only the ride the bus in which he or she was assigned.   Students listed in the walk zone are not eligible for bus transportation.  During the first couple weeks of school, we ask for your patience with the accuracy of the posted bus times because drivers are working diligently to figure out their routes.  All bus riders should arrive to their stop 10 minutes before the posted time.  The bus will not wait until the posted time to depart the stop so it is imperative that you arrive early (and be prepared to possibly wait until after the posted time) for first couple weeks of school. We assure you that our drivers are doing their very best to pick up all of the children as efficiently and safely as possible.

While we know that many families want to drive their students to school on the first day, we encourage parents to have their children arrive at school the first day via the same mode as every other day--especially our bus riders.  This helps the bus driver and students to put faces with names and helps students establish their routine.  Students that arrive to school by bus in the morning have an easier time locating their bus in the afternoon and will be able to recognize friends who ride the same bus, as well as recognize the driver.

Parents who will be dropping off or picking up their students via car will use the Dunloggin MS parking lot.  Cars will enter in a line and loop around to the curb that runs along the side of Northfield.  Staff members will be there to assist students in exiting their cars and keeping the flow of traffic moving.

Additionally, we wanted to highlight a message that was shared in the Northfield News last week.

During open house on Friday, August 31st, parents will have the important responsibility of picking up a backpack loop or tag in order to communicate your child's mode of transportation at the end of each school day. These backpack tags/loops will be in your child's homeroom.  Please complete this task at open house or write a note on the first day of school communicating how your child will get home.  We want all of our students to get home safely everyday, but especially on the first day.

Thank you for doing your part to help all of our students get to and from school as safely as possible every single day.  Please contact Mrs. Lopez (cathleen_lopez@hcpss.org) or Mrs. Golden (colleen_golden@hcpss.org) with any questions or concerns regarding our dismissal procedures.  For our new families, we will be reviewing this in more detail at our New to NES Family Orientation for students in Grades 1-5 on Friday, August 31st from 10:30-11:00 a.m.

Thank you,
Mrs. Lopez and Mrs. Golden
