Important Traffic Safety Reminders

It is that time of year when we need to review traffic safety.  The rules and procedures we have in place are in the interest of students and community safety.
Crosswalk Safety
First of all, there is a stop sign as you approach the entrance to Northfield Elementary.  Unless directed to keep driving (waved through) by the NES staff member on crosswalk duty, please remember to STOP at the STOP sign at all times!  The student crosswalk is just beyond the stop sign.  Be aware that we have staff posted to monitor the crosswalk  between 8:20 and 8:40 am. The other day a distracted driver rolled through the stop sign and slammed on brakes as we had NES students crossing.  Needless to say, this was scary for the parent and the students.
Please drive slowly, keep the phones tucked safely away to prevent distracted driving, and STOP at the sign to look for pedestrians in the crosswalk.
Carloop Procedures
When arriving to drop off or pick up your child, please know that it should be a quick “kiss and drop” process.  Please prepare your child for a quick exit from the car.  We ask that all adults remain in the car, as the staff on duty will assist the child from the car.  We are finding that the goodbyes are taking too long, causing the car loop process to last longer than it should.  This then creates a problem of students entering school late.  Please plan accordingly in having your child here on time and in following this procedures.  If you feel you need more time to say goodbye or prepare your child for the day, please park in the auxiliary lot and walk your child to the front.  If you choose this option be sure to use only the main crosswalk and not through the main parking lot.
Thank you for helping to keep our students and staff safe, and for helping to prevent accidents!
Sincerely,
Cathleen C. Lopez, Principal
