Our next NES Admin Chat will offered on Wed. October 7th at 3:00pm and again at 6:00pm to help accommodate family schedules. Please note that the afternoon time changed from our original start time at 2:45pm to 3:00pm due to MAP Testing. Please see the most recent Northfield News for links to the Google meet and the Google survey form.
If you can't make it at this time, please save the dates for the following Wednesdays from 2:45-3:45 pm or 6:00-7:00 pm: November 4, December 9, and January 13. We will send out a Google form to collect your questions one week prior to the scheduled date.
On Wednesday, October 7th at 9am and at 1pm, we are offering the MAP Reading test to students in grades 2-5.
On Wednesday, October 14th at 9am and 1pm we are offering the MAP Math test to students in grades 2-5.
The data from the MAP assessment will help schools and teachers measure where your child is starting the year academically. The HCPSS intends to also give the assessment in winter and spring to measure how your child’s learning is progressing throughout the year. The MAP test does not affect grades and the difficulty adjusts depending on how your child responds. It is normal for students to only answer about half the questions correctly. To ensure accurate results, your child should answer the questions independently.
To learn more about the MAP assessment, please visit: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/common-questions-families/
On October 7th, your child’s Reading Google Meet link will be their usual ELA Google Meet Code.
On October 14th, your child’s Math Google Meet link will be their usual Math Google Meet Code.
You may enter at either 9am or at 1pm, depending on what works best for your child’s learning and family schedule. While teachers may ask which session your child prefers during class time, we would appreciate your help in asking your child which session he/she will attend so the teacher can make an attendance list (roster) for that session.
Here are some suggestions for a successful MAP experience:
Minimize distractions for your child as much as possible.
Have scratch paper available for your child to write down the Session Name and Password provided in the Google Meet chat.
A link to the test site will be provided in the Google Meet chat.
Your child will then login using the Session Name and Password.
Allow your child to work independently on the questions.
Once your child has finished testing, they should leave the Google Meet. Depending on which time they choose to test, they should take an activity break, eat lunch, and also work on other asynchronous learning tasks that day. Please note that Dreambox, LexiaCore, and math tasks are cancelled on testing days, but related arts and science tasks will still be available.
Teachers will send out this message again via their Canvas announcements with their specific google meet codes the Fridays prior to each assessment.
Please contact your child’s teacher or Assistant Principal, Mrs. Hyun (email@example.com), if you have any questions regarding testing.
